2012 Post flood appraisals were shown to homeowners in the buyout & told that it was the only appraisal in existence
Financial funny business in government is regulated, in part, by the state and county comptrollers office. But what happens when the Money Police refuse to investigate an obvious fraud committed by public officials?
Mike Wendel started this saga by investigating circumstances surrounding the demolition of his home (7034 Rte. 209) in Wawarsing NY. The state compensated less than half the actual value of the property, with a fraudulent appraisal.
The dubious reasoning behind the demolition, and the series of malicious and retaliatory actions taken to obstruct Wendels fight for justice, are lengthy and must be detailed in a separate, longer story. For now, let us focus on the unusual tale of the fraudulent appraisals.
After years of wrangling, Wendel was able to obtain from the Ulster County Office of Emergency Management, two sets of appraisals, all conducted by the same person, for 55 houses in Napanoch. Each was several years, and roughly $20,000 apart.
Ulster County officials paid the homeowners the lowball value as compensation for their home, which was then promptly demolished, and extorted a lifetime health waiver from the families living there.
Then, these same officials turned around to New York State, and submitted the higher appraisals for reimbursement, pocketing the $20,000 difference. There is no accounting for the $250,000 stolen through this fraud. All we know is that it was entirely illegal.
Strangely, the Ulster County Comptroller stated iin a Freedom of Information Law request, that the audit reports for these transactions could not be provided, because none were ever conducted. The State Comptrollers office said the same thing.
Instead, more illegal activities took place, over and over, committed for the sole purpose of shutting Wendel down. And also, shutting him up. Wendel was repeatedly obstructed, prosecuted, slapped with orders of protection, and eventually, convicted and sentenced to probation, by a kangaroo local court, all for asking questions about these fraudulent appraisals.
There must be something really important in these appraisals, for public officials to conspire together and go to such great lengths to hide. Not convinced? See for yourself.
